New appointments strengthen Sustainable Capital’s research capabilities in Africa.

Sustainable Capital is delighted to announce the appointment of two senior investment analysts to the Africa research team. Shaun Collyer joined the investment team in February 2010 and Gaëtan Herinckx joined the Cape Town based research team in April 2010.
Shaun, who joins the team from the USA, brings a wealth of investment valuation and financial analysis knowledge with over a decade of private equity and investment banking experience. Shaun has a passion for long-term sustainability issues, which he developed in a private equity environment at Pegasus Capital Advisors and more recently with Grey Mountain Partners. Shaun completed his MBA through the London Business School and Columbia Business School and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Gaëtan joins the team in April from Dexia Asset Management in Belgium, where he was Head of Sustainable and Responsible Investments. He joined Dexia AM as SRI fund manager in 2001 and was appointed to manage Equity and balanced SRI Funds. Three years ago, Gaëtan became Head of SRI and helped design and implement Dexia’s SRI strategy. Gaëtan’s in-depth understanding of material, industry-specific sustainability risks and opportunities will complement the existing skills in the Sustainable Capital investment team. Gaëtan has a Masters in Business Engineering from the Louvain School of Management and a post-graduate degree in Financial Risk Management from Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis.
Commenting on the appointments, Greg Barker, co-founder and Head of Research of Sustainable Capital said, “It is always a challenge to find strong candidates who truly understand sustainability and are able to integrate this knowledge into investment valuation using rigorous fundamental research and financial analysis. The aim of our funds is to exploit the chronic mispricing of material sustainability risks and opportunities in African financial markets through detailed research with a long-term time horizon. The addition of Shaun and Gaëtan to the investment team significantly enhances our ability to continue to achieve superior, long-term risk-adjusted returns for our investors.”
Kevin Macdonald, co-founder and Director of Sustainable Capital, added, “We continue to discover significant investment opportunities for our clients in Africa. The additions to the research team are a strong indication of our commitment to our investment process, which requires in-depth, in-situ due diligence of both financial and sustainability factors that have an impact on shareholder value and the returns to our investors.”
